Forrest 24hr - Dusted1 December 2008 Trailhead Bike Co. sponsored 2 teams in the Kona 24hr Global Series event held at Forrest on 29-30 November. It was a fantastic success for all involved with everyone walking away with a smile. ThanksThis simply wouldn't have happened without the terrific support from Trailhead Bike Co. and in particular Ari Lingam. Trailhead organised the teams, entries, transport, registrations, jerseys, mechanics, a huge tent, recliners, gels, bars, recovery drinks, tubes, tires, tools and lights. Most importantly they fostered a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all. Support the shop that supports our local community and trails, and we'll all continue to benefit. It would appear 4 is the new 6, with foursomes being the biggest and most competitive category this year. It is easy to see why, with rides and challenges coming around quickly for each team member.
Race time
The 'Too' team would have been better classified as the 'A' team. What a balanced group! They bonded straight away got down to the business of posting very similar lap times. Their night tactics and night work ethic impressed the most. These guys pushed themselves and each other, holding onto 'it' for the entire race.
Our 'B' team also had a blast. Fading in the wee hours, a rest was needed. Impressively they picked it up early and finished with enough spirit to lift them up the rankings.
Racing highlights across three different courses included adrenalin filled first laps, secluded night laps and final morning fun on Forrest tracks that had it all.
The wrap
Team Too finished in 20th position. A well deserved result for their hard night work. Team DILLIGAF finished 38th. Putting in the laps was enough to make everyone a winner.

The take home message is you can't ride these events without a team. It's about so much more than results. Everyone did a great job and we can all be proud of our own efforts and team work.
With family and work demands solo riding is necessary however, events like this point out the importance of also getting out in a group. So keep visiting Trailhead for details of different monthly training rides...
The awards
Ari - bike packer award. Did everything including dropping bikes at 100 km/h. Biggest team asset.
Jason - re-greaser award. Chain spinning at 5:45am not welcome, but did the trick.
Nick - cruising award. Did it easy on road preparation. Finished unscathed with the biggest smile.
Andrew I - fastest rider award. Quick laps and an even quicker puncture repair impressed.
Ben - turkey award. Recovered from night fright, and as always got up and kept on going.
Andrew N - early bird award. Found sitting at transition 1.5 hrs before his next scheduled ride.
Ross - the phantom award. Unassumingly fast and consistent. One to watch next time.
Trevor - glass half full award. Looked gone after a rough night lap. Only to scream for joy on his morning lap.
JerseysThere are a few Trailhead Jerseys still available to the public. Hurry, they will sell fast. The jerseys have a full zip and 3 pockets on the back and are short sleeved.
